A very warm welcome to Maple Class. We are a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children. Maple Class has a dedicated team of adults who are passionate about teaching in the early years. Miss Roberts is the class teacher, with many years of experience in Key Stage 1. She is the Early Years Leader and works closely with Little Oaks staff. Mrs Harwood is our full-time teaching assistant. She is very skilful at supporting children in developing their speech and language skills.
We are passionate about giving our children the best possible start to their journey through school, preparing them for the next stage in their education by developing confidence, independence, and a love of learning. In Maple Class, we believe in fun, active learning that engages the children and allows them to explore the world around them through purposeful play and planned activities. Our rich and creative curriculum is carefully planned to reflect the interests of the children and offer new experiences and challenges. Many of our activities are based on favourite stories and poems, encouraging an interest in reading and developing those crucial early reading skills. Maple and Cherry Class teachers work closely together to ensure that children in Y1 experience a more structured curriculum that builds on the foundation stage and develops the skills required in KS1.
Our outdoor area is an important part of the learning environment and gives us the opportunity to cultivate an interest in the natural world and how to look after it. Children also enjoy playing in our large sandpit, outside kitchen and with the many exciting resources in our shed!
