“Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential...experiences between birth and five has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up”

"Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage”, Department for Children, Schools and Families, (2017)

At Turners Hill CofE Primary School, we value the importance of the Early Years Education as the beginning of a child’s learning journey. We ensure the best possible start by:

  • Inspiring children through an imaginative and immersive curriculum. Our topics are engaging and taught across all of KS1 and Early Years. We ensure that the children are happy and enthusiastic to learn whilst fostering and nurturing their curiosity.
  • Providing a happy, safe, stimulating and challenging programme of learning and development.
  • Providing a broad, balanced, relevant and creative curriculum that will support building firm foundations for further learning. We promote decision making, independence and self-confidence.
  • Using and valuing what each child can do by assessing their individual need and helping each child to progress.
  • Developing strong relationships with parents and carers.
  • Providing a caring and inclusive learning environment which is sensitive to the requirements of all the children.

With in the Foundation Stage, we have carefully constructed learning opportunities, which are underpinned by the Early Years Framework (2021). This includes seven educational programmes based upon the three  ‘Prime Areas’  and four  ‘Specific Areas’.

The three ‘Prime Areas’ are -  Personal, social and emotional development (PSED), Communication and language (CL), and Physical development (PD).

The four main Specific Areas are:  Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

The three prime areas form the building blocks for learning and underpin our curriculum across all areas. Good development in all of these areas is essential for all other learning to take place. We pride ourselves on the promotion and development of PSED and Communication and Language so that children can go on through school to reach their full potential.

"Children in the early years behave exceptionally well. They are engrossed in independent activities. Children understand the school values and are kind to each other."

"Pupils get off to a strong start in the early years."

"Leaders have continued to develop existing strong practice in the early years so that children attain highly and are ready for the curriculum in Year 1."
