Wraparound Childcare

Wraparound Childcare

Introduction

From September 2016, all parents/carers of children in Reception up to Year 6 have the right to request that the school their child attends considers establishing wraparound childcare.

Wraparound care includes, for example:
  • Early morning 'breakfast club' provision
  • After-school childcare which extends beyond the end of the school day during term time
  • Childcare which is available in the school holidays.

Timetable and process for requests

The annual timetable and process for requests at Turners Hill CofE Primary School is set out below:

  • Beginning of January to end of February – Annual request window is open
  • Month of March – Consideration of requests
  • Mid-April (as close to 15th as possible) – Response to requests.

If you would like to request wraparound childcare

Please write to the headteacher, Ben Turney, within the designated annual request window. Requests made outside of this window will not be considered.
If the school receives 10 or more requests within the designated request window, then the school will consider wider demand across the school and communicate findings back to parents during the response window (mid-June).

The following issues will inform the consideration of requests from parents/carers:
  • The level of demand for wraparound care
  • Whether there is existing provision
  • Whether there are nearby schools/academies who would be interested in collaborating to offer wraparound provision to reach a critical mass
  • Whether there is suitable space available within the school to run the wraparound provision at the times requested
  • Practical issues such as site security, cleaning etc.
  • Whether there is existing similar provision available locally
  • Whether there is sufficient capacity to run the provision
  • Whether there is evidence of value for money
